How come your hair only looks good when nobody sees it? When we wake up, it’s like hot-goddess/Gisele territory. Piecey and just bouncy enough—even the bangs look perfect. At the grocery store it’s adorable—by some miracle of irony the layers are laying just right. At the gym even the pony looks sexy—just enough height at the crown and again, perfect bangs.
Go to work and it’s phllllbt… a sad mop of mousy, floppy chunks that stick out at weird angles. Out to dinner? One side kinks while the other curls, so we cram it up in a bun and wear big earrings to hide our hot-roller horror. And for a job interview? Well, there’s no hope. We have no ideas for making it look professional, other than ironing it stick-straight and pulling it back. Whoopee?
We are seriously considering getting one of those awesome Raquel Welch wigs. They’re glamorous and ideal for any occasion. We might even buy glasses. But if you want to keep your mane au naturel, forward this issue to 5 or more friends for your chance to win a $50 Gift Certificate toward a fabulously stylish cut or color with Jeff Davidson at Tribe Hair Studio! |

Moving On Up
While it’s a total pain in our delicate derrieres, we L-U-V moving. We leave the heavy lifting for the boys and when they have removed their sweaty selves from our new digs, we’ve got this great new space in which we can totally reinvent ourselves. It’s like it empowers us to reinvent our lives.
And speaking of moving, one of our fave boutiques just underwent a little move of its own. Known for stocking exclusively local designers, Northwest’s Seaplane just relocated off of busy NW 23rd to a calmer and cuter space on NW Lovejoy. With slightly more square footage to showcase displays and clothes, their new digs allow room for designers to sew on site, allowing the hottest and newest trends and designs to be available for your purchase almost the second they’re imagined!
With fashion that instant, you’ll be able to reinvent yourself monthly. Check out Seaplane’s new space today—and make sure to bring those sweaty boys with you… to carry home your bags of fashion-forward finds!

L.A. (Get in) Gear Hair
Lately we’ve been in transition with a capital T—changing careers, moving to a new place, playing “musical men.” But our hair has been stuck in a rut and holding us back. We needed a clean slate for our ’do, too!
Then we heard about Jeff Davidson at Tribe Hair Studio. After over a decade snipping and coloring entertainment-industry folk in Santa Monica (ahem, Marcia Cross, Rachel Dratch), he moved his family to Portland to embark on a new, down-to-earth lifestyle. If anyone was going to understand our desire for transformation, it was Jeff.
Though he’s turned into a NW-style bike commuter, Jeff’s still got the eye for bigger city glamour and style—at a very reasonable Portland price! He created volume and movement that we didn’t know was possible, and knocked out such cute bangs that we can’t stop looking in the mirror. We’re going back for color and extensions (he’s the only Portland stylist certified with the Nordic Hair system) to go from bob to bombshell. Mention Portland Picks when Jeff works his magic on you to receive a free Bumble & Bumble conditioning treatment!

Fat and Happy
It’s that time again. The sun is out, the birds are singing, the flowers are in bloom—and we can’t decide what we want to drink. Do we want an iced coffee? Nah. A milkshake? OMG, no, have you seen our butt in those shorts? What we really want is something substantial yet refreshing. Something fun. That’s it! Bubble tea!
Fat Straw has opened another location; this time, in NW Portland. And we’re thrilled. Much is the same: the great bubble tea and smoothie options, free wi-fi with purchase, and snacks. And new in this setting: banh mu sandwiches, the perfect lunch to go along with whatever you decide to slurp.
All in a cool location that is the perfect break from shopping. So drop your bags (you are supporting our local businesses, right?), grab a pal, and take a load off and sip in one of the most happening spots on one of the most happening streets.

Find Your Marbles
Now that the weather is agreeable, we have been clocking time in the garden. Well, the patch of dirt we call a garden. Now we’re just waiting for everything to grow.
In the meantime, we’re going to start decorating our patch of earth with these adorable marble garden balls from Ta-Dah. Locally made from reclaimed Magic 8 balls and marbles, they are flat on the bottom, totally original, and destined to be permanent conversation pieces. Who cares if the flowers bloom?

Playin’ Like a Playa
That’s “playa” as in beach, not “playa” as in player. Now that we’ve got that straight, it’s probably obvious that we are dying to show off our spray tans on a sandy stretch somewhere. And since Portland isn’t exactly a hop/skip/jump from the tropics, we’ll fake the feeling with this adorable necklace from Flying Monkey Designs!
Locally made, it features a delicate rose carved in mother-of-pearl, dangling from a mother-of-pearl necklace with brown pearls and Swarovski crystals. Here comes el sol!

Make Dad Feel like a Hero
If your father taught you to ride a bike, catch a fish or bake a cake, he might be your hero. And we found an adorable way to say “Thanks, Pop” for all those years of putting up with you.
These handmade paper Father’s Day cards from local artisan MollyLee feature a few designs to choose from, but our favorite is the “Why He’s Your Hero.” You have a box to write in the exact reason why!

Did you watch the Starlight Parade? We went downtown this year to check it out and it was hilarious. Between the Pac-Man-costumed runners and the umbrella brigade, we were hooked. But here’s tip for next year: Wear flip-flops! We went down there in “do-me” heels and it was, to say the least, a faux pas. A painful faux pas.
