Portland Picks:

Winter mornings are designed for sleeping in; there is nothing nicer than rolling over and pressing snooze. Unfortunately, sleeping in can mean missing a shower. We have the cure for those rushed mornings, just spray on some Aveda Reviving Mist, style as normal, and wha-lah; no one will ever know the difference. This organic lavender water restores movement and moisture to limp hair. You'll look and feel freshly coifed. It's truly the miracle we busy girls can't live without.

Another winter crutch, the cup of strong coffee to start the heart can also have an adverse affect on your breath? While you are at Dosha picking up your Aveda Mist, grab a little Peppymint breath refresher. Just like your hair, these droplets of cooling peppermint and anise will freshen your morning breath, neutralize odor and add pep to your step. Now your ready to face the day, and no one will ever know you got ready in under 10 minutes. Dosha, 2281 NW Glisan Street, Portland / 3490 SE Hawthorne Blvd., Porltand. 503.228.8280. www.dosha.org

Okay, now that you're respectably presentable, there's something else we need to talk about. I hope it's not too soon in our relationship. What if you think we're cheap? Okay, we'll say it. Strip mall. There. But can we at least talk about it? It's not what you think. Buried within the suburban concrete retail rows off State in Lake Oswego, you will find a treasure. It's Naturals.

Naturals is a beautiful well-lit store filled with amazing, hand-crafted jewelry. Ruby and cherry quartz chandelier earrings from Yed Omi, birthstones from Viv & Ingrid, charm bracelets adorned with clever silver NYC subway tokens. The jewelry alone is worth the trip South. They also carry cool thick one-of-a kind retro knit caps, awesome leather bags in orange or Portland Pick's green, adorable pink cotton cami and pants, and a fabulous collection of jeans and t-shirts. Naturals has a nice selection of brightly colored cashmere sweaters with just a little edge, sexy but practical lingerie, lace-up leather boots, and on and on. With so many treasures, we double dog dare you to leave without a purchase. Naturals Clothing Company, 333 South State Street Suite F, Lake Oswego, OR

Since you've gone this far, you might as well go all the way. Stop into Port City Pasta Italian Grocery and pick up dinner. They have all kinds of pasta, salads, famous Foccacia raved about in Gourmet magazine. Just take it home, heat and serve, and pretend you made it from scratch. No one will know the difference. People will remark what a wonderful cook you are, you must have slaved.

Next, head over to the Strip next door and grab a Strawberries Wild Jamba Juice with a boost of Immunity and Femme Vitale. Browse through Buddies for great topiaries, orchids, unique bouquets which are pure art (no carnations here) and fun hostess gifts. If you're not afraid of carbs, pick up a loaf of homemade bread from UCB. You could spend the whole day on State Street alone, but that's another story.

Music Pick of the Week:

You have to buy the new cd from Five for Fighting, The Battle for Everything. Our new favorite song is "100 years." It's all about how fleeting time is. "I'm 22 for a moment..." You'll want to drive around in your car, windows down, and sing as loud as you can, pretending you are 22 again. But then unfortunately, you'll remember you're in the mini-van and you'll have a flash of a mid-life crisis because you were just 22 for a moment and that moment was a long time ago, even though it seems like a just a moment ago (exhale). On second thought, there are a lot of other really good songs on the cd. Seize the day, live the moment, regret nothing.
