The
word of the day is LOUNGE. Say it with us, “Lounge.”
This is our very favorite word! And there are so many ways to do it! We
hope just the prospect of the word, LOUNGE, brings a smile to your fabulous
face. Since it is an art form, we are going to tell you just how you can best
lounge in Portland, so listen closely:
Spend a day at the Aequis Spa Retreat!
Because you are so worthy, we suggest the Goddess Bliss Journey.
First of all, step one: release the Goddess in you, easier said than done,
until you take one step into the Aequis, then it is a breeze. Once you dip
those cute little toes into a luscious rose petal footbath while your hair
is being gently brushed and your hands are massaged, simultaneously--I mean,
really, you’ve died and gone to heaven. The breath of rose in the air,
the warm relaxing tension-erasing pressure applied to your hands and you
will start believing you are the one and only Supreme Queen of Planet Earth.
(Now if only some hunks laden in small grape leaf g-strings would fan you
with peacock feathers and hand feed you grapes, God Almighty!) Okay –
but it’s not even close to being done. No siree Bob, it’s just
the beginning! Now picture yourself being lead to a room filled with flowers
and candles to receive a mini-facial and gentle full body exfoliation. Keep
your eyes closed and float away as petals are sprinkled the length of your
body and warm oil is slowly drizzled from head to beautiful toe.
Then, finally you, as the deservedly Queen Bee of the Universe, will receive
your flower petal massage that uses long soft gliding movements that will
float you away from it all. This Goddess Bliss Journey is perfect before
a wedding, that big birthday, any ceremony celebrating your feminine energy,
or really any day of the week because YOU are friggin’ WORTHY! (It
is quite expensive, Princess, but worth every little dime to make you feel
like a million bucks!) A three-hour visit at $375 priceless dollars.
Now if you don’t feel this is quite up to snuff and you deserve even
MORE fabulous treatment, not to fear. You can always ‘settle’
on the Royal Sambara “Supreme Bliss.” This takes just
a half an hour longer than the aforementioned, but you get a seated sinus
clearing inhalation canopy and netti therapy followed by the Sambara Scalp
Treatment; a true gift to your mind, head and emotions (especially during
psycho PMS time!). But then, you get the gift of their signature Tandem Massage,
performed by TWO therapists (because you deserve the very best, and sometimes
one is simply not enough for you!) followed by a warm herb infused aroma
wrap. It is a pretty penny but as you know by now you are worth this on a
regular basis. I mean c’mon, ALL the multitudinous multitasking you
do. Frankly, you deserve this weekly!!!
Just a note, the best and most valuable part, if you don’t feel like
talking, you just don’t want to speak about all the things you’re
trying to escape, they give you this little ribbon which indicates to everyone
not to speak to you. WE LOVE THIS. (We thought this was so ingenious...we
even tried wearing it at home for the same impact but the husband and kids
didn’t quite adhere to it.) Not that we are anti-social, but sometimes,
even though we love ourselves and our royal lives, we like to really, really
escape from who we are. That is the best part of this royal experience. And
talk about Loungin’ Queenie Style. 1306 NW Hoyt St., Suite 201,
Portland, Oregon 97209
Now, we realize that we can’t be spa’in it every day but we
can feel relaxed and lounge with the best of them at home. We just need the
proper loungin’ attire (notice that we need to say “loungin”
to properly lounge.)
First, an absolute must-have addition to your at-home spa-wear collection:
a pink and white terrycloth After the Bath Wrap and matching headband
with bow and flowers from Coco and Toulouse Go Shopping in Sellwood.
And it’s homegrown right here in Portland. You will wear this every
time you get out of the shower. It’s so practical, feminine and the
ultimate lounging requirement. Perfect for every princess. Coco &
Toulouse Go Shopping...7080 SE 16th, Portland, OR 97202.

Picks Chick Flick of the Week:
And now that you’re all cozy in jammies and fuzzy slippers, sipping
on your fuzzy, loungy navel, it’s time for the cozy chick flick you
rented. The very fabulous, but [beware] incredibly sad movie: My Life
Without Me.
New on Video: My Life Without Me directed by Isabel Coixet
Sarah Polley proves once again that she's more than the latest "It"
Girl. In this sad but empowering Indie film, Polley plays Ann, a working
class wife and mother, employed as a janitor at an upscale school. When she
visits the doctor for a routine check-up after fainting, her world is turned
upside down. While this could have been your standard Hollywood Kleenex bonanza,
Polley imbues her character with strength of purpose upon discovering her
fate. As Ann, Polley comes up with a list of things to do before she dies;
including making love to a man other than her husband as well as mundane
items like changing her hairstyle & getting fake nails. A tearjerker?
Well, yes, but also a beautiful film about self-determination and fully living
one's life.
Bonus: Scott Speedman plays her husband.
If you want
to have your own special in-home spa time, you are in for a Treat!
We have our own local Treat Shoppe, with bath and body treats made
right here in Portland. These sinfully sweet treats are for your bath instead
of your belly. Bursting with natural benefits, these sweet beauty treats will
indulge and nourish your skin. Hand blended and whipped together with the
most decadent ingredients and delicious flavors Treat will leave you sweet
enough to eat.
You can find them at Dana Lynn, Quality handbags, jewelry & accessories
by local designers.
720 NW 23rd, 971.230.0144. (Treat makes a great hostess gift too.)
If by now, you’re so tired of lounging, and you need to get the hell
out of the house, why not go to a hip hoppin’ real life LOUNGE (though
we might remind you to ditch the jammies first)? What better swanky new scene
than Vault Martini. And the best part...the lounging can continue on
the velvet sofas, in front of the crackling fire and the huge array of martinis
to choose from. The interior is striking and reminiscent of a Manhattan venue.
It has only been opened a couple of weeks but has immediately become the new
IT place to hang. Try the Pooh’tini, the Agent Orange, or the You’re
turning violet, Violet martinis. Or, as they say, when caution gets thrown
to the wind, try one of their Decadents like the S’more Fondue made
with warm Godiva Chocolate Liqueur infused chocolate and marshmallows, housemade
graham crackers and fresh fruit. Sigh....
Vault Martini, 226 NW 12th Ave., 503.224.4909
Now go out there and lounge your heart out missy, because you deserve it!!!
