Portland Picks: Flower Power
- Remember these important words of wisdom: a perfect pot makes the perfect
first impression. Gardening is here; time to think about planting our own
gardens, filling all those terracotta pots with flourishing spring flowers.
We always envy people that have perfectly coifed planters and pots, never
a petal out of place. Well there's actually a service that does this
and they are turnkey. They plant and create the initial masterpiece and then
maintain it all summer long. Your friends and neighbors will think you are
so together, so talented, such a green and enviable thumb! For your very
own perfect pots, contact: West Coast Plant Co., 1825 NW Vaughn, Portland,
Oregon 97209 503.227.6500
- Okay, summer is coming, it's bathing suit time, and there is no
avoiding it. We know, we know. You've had some kids, and though you
look great in those designer duds, sometimes we can't hide so well
in our barely-there bathing suit. And we wouldn't be caught dead in
a bikini. No matter how many sit ups, exercise classes, starvation diets;
our tummies always seem to look the same. Our belly buttons just aren't
the tight proud innies they once were. We've thought about tummy tucks
but that seems a little extreme, and who has time for that with our busy
lives?
Well, we have a miracle for you. There is a new procedure called Thermage;
laser skin tightening without the knife. A quick and painless in-office visit
and then you're out the door with your new 16-year-old six-pack (okay, maybe
not a six-pack, but amazing results!). But you HAVE to do it at the Key
Laser Institute from Dr. Douglas Key. Technique is all-important and
Dr. Key has the experience and the results. You will be so happy, you'll
run out and buy your first bikini in years and look forward to strutting
your stuff around the pool this summer!
Key Laser Institute, Peterkort Center One, 9555 SW Barnes Rd., Ste.
309; 503.291.1953; KeyLaserInstitute.com.
Whether
you are an amateur wine drinker or an expert connoisseur, it's time
to learn from the experts...
We've always held a romantic fantasy about making our own wine, crushing
our own grapes and (bereft of family connections or an ancient vineyard)
being a famous vintner one day. Well now this fantasy can become a reality
and you can actually try on your dream job for size right here in Oregon.
Ah yes, sipping a nice glass of Pinot Noir while relaxing on a hillside with
a beautiful view of the vineyards and the Oregon Coastal Range. This can
be your reward at the end of your day testing the waters as a vintner at
Amity Vineyards, one of the country's leading Pinot Noir producers.
Why not save the airfare and take a stimulating vacation right here, and
live out a fantasy.
Call 866-VVTODAY (866-888-6329) to arrange your very own Vintner Vocation
Vacation! Grounded Nomads, LLC, 1631 NE Broadway, #422, Portland, OR 97232-1425.

Crystal
Springs Rhododendron Garden
The rhodeys are coming, the rhodeys are coming! Sometimes the kids are way
too energetic and just need a change of scenery. Freedom is calling the little
tykes, and just like us, they get a little antsy during the long dismal winter.
They need to get outside. Sometimes WE just need to get outside, back to
nature. On the next sunny morning, head to Sellwood and grab a latte at Starbucks,
and then onto Crystal Springs near Reed College to stroll through the most
fabulous Rhododendron Garden.
This setting will definitely add a spring to your step and a twinkle to your
eye. Spring has sprung at the Rhododendron Garden in East Moreland. This
is one of the world's finest collections of rhododendrons and azaleas
in an idyllic setting. There are over 90 species of birds for the amateur
bird-watcher. It is so beautiful; it's the perfect thing to do on a
lazy afternoon. Whether you are strolling with your young child and feeding
the ducks with the complimentary duck food (watch out, they can sometimes
be fierce), walking hand in hand with your significant other, or picnicking
among the beautiful Rhodeys you will feel a million miles away. This is a
hidden Oregon treasure, right in our backyard. They start to bloom now through
May...so don't delay.
Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden, on SE 28th Avenue, one block
north of Woodstock between Reed College and Eastmoreland Golf Course. Open
dawn to dusk March through Labor Day. No charge Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Children under 12 are free. Adults $3.
