What’s up with the weather? This monsoon is not good on my Jessica Simpson curls I spent fourteen hours painstakingly trying to create? Damn! Is it a sign? The end of the world? Or worse, the premature end of summer? No fair!

Hey, don’t cry cutie! Even though Labor Day marks the “unofficial” end to Summer, there’s plenty to look forward to in the way of flirty Fall fashions and glam evening wear for those Holiday parties you’ll be crashing. Sure, we’re a wee bit weepy that we’ll be bundling up a little bit more in the coming weeks --- our tans will fade, our wardrobe will succumb to the inevitable layering of jackets and scarves & we certainly won’t be lounging on the deck at our favorite lake-side eatery. Woe is us!

Buck up little camper! We will be getting excited about the leaves turning, the crispness of the Fall air, Halloween and Thanksgiving & getting a little more dressed to impress with all of the lush fabrics the season has to offer. We’re going to pull the tweeds, tartans & wool coats, suits & dresses from the back of the closet and embrace the burgeoning social season with girly glee.

So reserve the ski house, pick your opera and symphony dates and stay tuned for the latest Fall fashion & makeup buzz, pop culture commentary and shopping tips galore! Bask in the final days of Summer doll face, and read on...

Insider's Issue: What’s In for Fall – From Flowers to Furs, The Fall Essentials

  • Baseball t-shirts - like this chocolate brown and fuchsia girl-fit baseball tee from www.Cherrytee.com, check it out and try to not fall in love with everything!
  • Brooks Brothers Little Boy oxfords (yes, for you!)
  • La Coste shirts in pink or brown or red long sleeve worn on the small side, not your father’s borrowed golf shirt look
  • Turquoise jewelry (e.g. hunky choker and bracelet), southwestern bright and eye catching
  • Vintage Cowboy boots with the worn and welcome look, scuffed toes okay
  • Cashmere Turtlenecks (e.g. Ralph Lauren Camel, in every color, fitted)
  • Seven For All Mankind jeans (still hot – get ‘em at Meringue or Olivia Belles)
  • Fur Scarves—make a fitted sweater look like an opera outfit
  • Round toe pumps (bye bye to strappy sandals)
  • Tweed hats, tweed skirts, tweed shoes (not worn all at the same time, tweedy)
  • Brooches – for your lapel, for your hair, for your shoes!
  • A Gold formal dress, strapless (e.g. Carolina Herrera)
  • Headbands: preppy with a twist
  • Stila’s Fiercely Feminine Palette (cosmetics that make sense) Inspired by the fierce femmes that sauntered down this season’s catwalks, Stila’s turned out a collection of four mini faux leather clutches packed with cutting-edge color for eyes and cheeks along with a trio of show-stopping lip shades. It’s the best way to demand attention - and keep it.
  • Shearling Vest—again we are looking west to look our best
  • Bond #9 – fragrance from NYC; each fragrance is created after a New York City neighborhood. (Don’t worry, it doesn’t smell like a dumpster)
  • Anything from Scott Barnes, the make up guru to the A-list stars. Check out his new line of hot cosmetics. We love Body Bling, for an instant rich suntan with glistening golden highlights (frequently seen on J Lo). Adds a warm glow, washes off.
  • Animal Print Pumps—super meow, you just feel sexy
  • Juicy Couture cashmere cardigans, Barneys NY
  • Western Shirts – worn a little small
  • The Right Hand Ring
  • Playing Rummy and Pitch with girlfriends
  • Classic Worn Levi’s
  • The Art of Crocheting
  • Ponchos—we never thought we’d see the day but this is not your 70’s weird aunt poncho! Hip, sweet, flattering and funky is the name of the day
  • The New VW Convertible in robin’s egg blue (with a vase!)
  • Graff Diamond Heart Earrings
  • Bangs instead of Botox
  • Big Fluffy Hair – think Farrah
  • Midnight Burgundy Calla Lilies (try City Flowers in the Pearl)

Are you a Lush? We are and proud of it!

Lush has opened on Northwest 23rd, next to Music Millennium. Founded in England, Lush currently has 185+ shops around the world. Lush creates all their cosmetics in UK, Italy, Canada, South America and Japan, in their own small batch production facilities. They are as fresh as they can possibly be, work better and use fewer preservatives. There is quite an international fuss buzzing around the globe about Lush and our little cosmopolitan town has one now too. We must have truly arrived! Their store and products are young, and fun and fresh. They make fabulous hostess gifts or pampering natural products for you or him

….like their Mask of Magnaminty:

A minty mask for stimulating the face, body and mind. Mask of Magnaminty is a deep, deep cleansing and exfoliating mask, which works beneath the skin and extracts toxins, softens and calms the skin. Breathe in the fresh, mega-minty aroma to wake-up your brain cells then spread on a thick, green mask to do the same for your skin cells.

Or their Black Magic Massage bar.

Black Magic is ideal for inspiring those men who wish women were supplied with an instruction book, the ones who take a rather mechanical approach to everything, if you catch our drift. The chocolate topped Black Magic is scented with a powerful perfume; geranium, clary sage and ylang ylang petals give it a deliciously penetrating scent. Use the magic contained in this massage bar to inspire him.

Please check them out. You will be delighted you did.

Schoolhouse Electric Company manufacturers fabulous quality period lighting fixtures & glass shades. These classic fixtures and hand-blown shades have been out of production since the Depression Era. The place is full of things that you feel you must have, nearly need. Original, authentic and so dang cool, people will ask and you will tell!

Brian Faherty, the owner and founder of Schoolhouse Electric Company in Portland, discovered a collection of original cast iron moulds sitting in an upstate New York warehouse, all but forgotten for more than half a century. Once covered with layers of rust and dirt, these moulds have been restored and returned to production. Schoolhouse Electric fixtures represents some of the best examples of true American lighting design, and is the inspiration behind Schoolhouse Electric Co.

Visit their retail showroom located in the historic Cully Building, built in 1884. Before Schoolhouse Electric Co. opened for business, company owner Brian Faherty spent a year renovating this stunning High Victorian Italianate brick and stucco building, restoring it’s storefront and creating a home for their retail showroom where you can see their line of handcrafted, American-made fixtures. Or just visit them online: www.schoolhouseelectric.com

Sometimes your child’s penchant for banging on pots and pans isn’t necessarily music to your ears. But never fear, we have just the salvation: Musical Chairs (and tables, and trunks, and more)! And they’re indestructible.

Musical Furnishings in Olympia, Washington is the highest quality musical children’s furniture designed by Northwest artist Tor Clausen.

They’re lovely to look at, can hold your toys and sweaters, and can teach your little musical prodigy a thing or two (and probably do all kinds of right brain wiring that’ll likely turn him into Mozart and make him genius at math).

The Right Hand Ring.

Let’s see: You have your engagement ring, your diamond tennis bracelet, your pearl necklace and diamond earrings but what else can you pine away for? There must be more. A diamond is a girl’s best friend after all, and we can have more than one best friend, right? Just because-because, the hot new trend for women who have it all, The Right Hand Diamond Ring.

He needs to show you time and time again how much he cares. Sometimes you’re not sure and need to be reminded of his love. And words and affection are nice, but real PROOF of his love in a right hand ring would really show you. Nothing but the best for you, Dahling, so send him on his merry way to Carl Greve or Tiffany’s.

Crocheting is back and bigger than ever! And it’s getting younger and younger.

So get in gear, Baby, and get that pretty bum down to swanky Lint on Northwest Marshall. Lint is not your typical yarn shop. It’s a light bright candy store filled with the biggest selection of the yummiest quality yarns around. Plus they have classes and can teach you how to actually make things you can wear. Imagine?!

Make sure to stock up on all their beautiful yarns and everything else you need to get cracking on this new hobby of yours. After all, you need to embrace this trend, own it, before any of your friends catch wind.

Check out their store and classes online at www.lintinc.com. They have a beginning crochet class starting in September every Saturday afternoon. Learn the basics, then crochet a hat or tank top or purse! “Me?” you ask in disbelieving incredulity. “Yes, even you!!” And you will wow your friends. “Oh, this little thing? I made it…”

(They even have classes that will teach you how to make a poncho! Yeah!)
