One word describes this deli: Primo! A couple who lived in John’s Landing loved it so much that they purchased this old, neglected grocery store…and turned it into an extraordinary, authentic Italian deli! (There’s even a handsome man behind the counter.) You have to stop by to believe it ... If the aroma from the freshly ground coffee doesn’t grab your attention, cases of imported cheeses, savory deli meats, and decadent deserts will! My neighbor tells me that the paninis are her fave, while ours include the fresh pasta and pizza by the slice. But it’s the gelato that has us coming back for more. It’s the best we’ve ever had!

Magma lights a torch at Yum Gallery for First Friday

Portland jewelry designer Blake Van Roekel will fire up her torch for Hood River's First Friday Art Walk on October 1st. From 7:00 to 8:00 pm Blake will demonstrate the challenge and fun of glass bead making at Yum Gallery, located at 111 Oak Street. She will also showcase all of her 2004 designs.

Magma, founded in 2003, is a distinctive line of lamp-worked glass jewelry. Each bead is unique, reflecting the natural flow of glass . . . hence magma. With an affinity for the medium, she finds that spontaneous accidents create the best designs. Blake makes her jewelry and teaches workshops at her Portland, OR studio.

Yum Gallery opened in 2002 and quickly became a prominent destination for Hood River's art patrons. The mission of the gallery is to embrace life, art, and community. Each month they feature a new artist in addition to regularly hosting a variety of artwork to include sculpture, photography, painting, and jewelry.
