April 14th, 2006
Dear Darlings,
We are so appreciative of you and feel so fortunate to have you as one of our super chi-chi, savvy readers. We feel like this is a cool club, that popular group we always wished we were a part of, because of YOU!
We want to invite you to a special, incredibly fun, silly event that raises money for a very serious cause near and dear to us.
Next Saturday, April 22nd, is the Black Tie Bowl-O-Rama. Each year we get together with our friends and dress up, have cocktails, and bowl for CARES Northwest.
It’s a blast, even though we are so stinky at bowling. But after a couple foofy drinks, we think we’re really good. The first year we went, we wore Cinderella ball gowns and our tiara’s. The next year we were the Bowling Brides in cheesy wedding gowns and veils. Last year we were Hula Girls in our fluorescent muu-muu’s, and this year......well, you’ll just have to come and see. It’s a surprise. Suffice it to say, we will look incredibly asinine. (asinine: marked by inexcusable failure to exercise intelligence or sound judgment = us!).
We would looooove it if you’d get your friends together (girlfriends, boyfriends, wives, husbands....) and think of a crazy theme and try and trump us. Dare ya! But you have to rsvp pretty soon since it’s next Saturday.
Speaking of asinine, this is the best, they even have Human Bowling. Yes, you heard right. In addition to bowling, dinner, cocktails, they will have a giant ball, someone will be strapped in, like maybe your co-worker, and then you get to roll them 30 feet into 5-foot tall bowling pins.
Okay, we’ll shut up now....but be sure to check out the invitation and the website for more info (then be sure to get on the horn with your pals and rsvp before they sell out!).

About CARES Northwest:
CARES Northwest is a collaborative, community-based medical clinic for the assessment, treatment and prevention of child abuse. They provide a safe, child-friendly environment for the assessment of children for whom there are concerns of physical or sexual abuse, neglect and exposure to domestic violence. Physicalexaminations and interviews are conducted in a comfortable environment to help children feel safe.
Founded in 1987, the program is a collaborative effort among three of the region's leading health systems — Kaiser Permanente, Legacy Emanuel Children's Hospital and OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital. CARES Northwest was the first program in Oregon to pair physicians and nurse practitioners with child interviewers in a medical setting to provide child abuse evaluations. Coordinating experts in medicine, mental health, child protective services and law enforcement agencies, CARES Northwest ensures that children obtain needed professional services in one child-friendly location. This approach to intervention increases effectiveness, which minimizes trauma to the child, helps prevent future abuse and sets them on the road to healing.
CARES Northwest is one of the oldest and largest child abuse assessment centers in the nation, serving more than 3,800 children annually. Approximately 1,500 children from Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington counties in Oregon and Clark County in Washington are seen at the clinic each year.
